On Palm Sunday, April 13, 2014, the Sunday school held its annual Bake Sale.
This year the kids voted to raise money for the Animal Welfare League of Laurel.
We are THRILLED to announce that we raised $431.65 for this wonderful cause! This is quite possibly our most successful bake sale, to date! What an incredible blessing it is to be a part of such a generous congregation. No matter what it is that the children of our church do, you support them - and so many other areas of our church. Thank you for your love, support, and generosity.
A HUGE thank you to all of our families who baked, frosted, and put together such delectable delights, without your efforts we absolutely couldn't taste such sweet success.
As we enter into April it's time to turn our focus to the Sunday School's next important event - the annual Bake Sale.
The Laurel UMC's Annual Sunday School Bake Sale will be held on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2014 before and after worship.
We hold this Bake Sale each year to raise funds for an organization of the kids' choosing. Our first year was all about creating "Sunshine Baskets" for the children's ward at one of our hospitals, next we raised money for ZooMontana, then we put the money back into the church for the new roof, and last year we raised money for the Jessie Rees Foundation's JoyJars. At this time the kids and I are still throwing ideas around about what we want the money to go towards, but we'll definitely be able to fill in that blank by Bake Sale time.
This is an event that could not be done without the parents and families of our kiddos, so please be sure to take the time to sign up on the clipboard in the education wing so we have some idea of what kinds (and how many) goodies we can expect.
So mark those calendars and prepare to bring your appetites and pocketbooks on Palm Sunday so that you can support our Sunday school's most beloved fundraiser!
Love & Blessings on your week,
We received a thank you earlier in the week from the Jessie Rees Foundation, which you can read below:
Laurel United Methodist Church (Sunday School Kids),
You'll recall that the proceeds from our 2013 Bake Sale went to the Jessie Rees Foundation to create more JoyJars. By taking the time to bake goodies with your family and putting forth your most charming faces, you (along with our generous congregation) were able to raise money for such an important cause! Jessie was and is an excellent example of just how much a single individual with an idea can do for a whole lot of people. Her motto was that saying from the thank you note: "NEGU: Never Ever Give Up!" It doesn't matter how small or young you are, inside is an incredible person who is capable of great and amazing things - you've just got to believe. Believe in you and believe your faith will bring you through! Let's adopt that mission: NEGU!
The Sunday School held its Annual Bake Sale on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 with great success. This year our Bake Sale was raising funds in support of the Jessie Rees Foundation's JoyJars. You can read more about JoyJars and why we felt this was a great cause for our kiddos to support, below.
The 2013 Sunday School Bake Sale raised $359.81, to date. As of this writing donations are still coming in! We can't thank the congregation enough for their generous support each year.

Every year we choose February to be our month where we put a special focus on the importance of sharing our faith, and what better way to do that than to Bring a Friend?
February was originally chosen as Bring a Friend Month because of Valentine's Day. I figured if we were already spreading love around, we might as well as apply it to our church life as well.
Starting Sunday, February 3, 2013 if the kiddos bring a friend to Sunday School, then they and their buddy will get to pick from our special prize basket.
We'll be taking a little break from our Books of the Bible review cards and focusing on lessons on God's love during Chapel Time throughout February. On Feb. 17, 2013, however, we'll be making our Praying Arm Pretzels, which is always a favorite day for the kiddos.
We hope to see you there...Bring a Friend!
Heading into our second week of February, we are cruising right through our great month of Caring & Sharing. This year we're juggling things around a bit, as we'll be holding our annual Bake Sale closer to Easter this year, so be on the lookout for that date!
For right now, though, February is Bring a Friend Month and the class with the highest average of visitors will be the lucky recipient of a cake and ice cream party the first Sunday in March!
We will also be acting as greeters this Sunday (the Sunday nearest Valentine's Day), so I hope all of our kiddos will be able to stay and help out. The congregation loves seeing those beautiful, smiling faces!
Just an FYI, we'll also be doing our Praying Arm Pretzels this month as well. Incredibly Lent is nearly in our midst. We'll be doing the pretzels during Chapel Time on Sunday, February 26th. We look forward to seeing lots of faces that day,as it's certainly a fan favorite.
blessings on your week,
Over the past couple of weeks we have been working diligently (super hard) to come up with this year's Caring & Sharing activities. Following is a peek at what you can expect this year:
Brief recap: Since February holds Valentine's Day, we decided last year that it would be a great idea to make February our great month of Caring and Sharing. Last year we collected a special offering to help with Haiti relief efforts, we collected canned food items to donate to Community Hope, we hosted a Bake Sale - the money raised went to creating Sunshine Baskets, which were donated to the Pediatrics department at the Billings Clinic.
Caring & Sharing 2011
Thus far we've tentatively decided upon the following:
See you in Sunday School, bring a friend!
